Welcome to my site!
I'm Steve Gibson and I teach guitar full time in my Colorado Springs studio at Graner Music.
So you're either a guitar player or want to be one. Worried that you don't have the talent to play? Afraid you're too old? Stop worrying, its not about talent or age. Primarily, the most important quality to learn guitar is DESIRE. Do you have the desire to play the guitar? Well I have good news for you, I believe every human is hardwired for music. We have the same capability to learn music as we do speech. If all people were raised around music like we are raised hearing our language spoken, we would all learn to play music just as easily as we learn to speak. Now that being said, what steps do you need to take to learn to play the guitar? That's what my site is for.. Read thru this information and check-out the links I list for additional help.

Its my opinion that there are basically 2 ways most of us learn the guitar: Immersion and/or Study
Immersion: This refers to the person who has always had a guitar in their hands and plays constantly 24/7. If you read about a guitarist who doesn't know any scales, chords etc. but is a phenomenal player, then you can bet they learned thru immersion. Remember, we are hardwired for music so just like speech, if you are around it constantly, you too will learn to speak...or in this case, play guitar.
Study: This is the person whose life hasn't centered around the guitar and so has worked hard to learn to play the guitar either thru their own studious efforts or thru private lessons. Its the pathway that most people follow especially if they are not professional musicians who choose to devote their life to music.
Now the reality is that most of us are a combination of the two pathways but we all tend to be more in one camp or the other. The exceptional musician has always played guitar and has actively studied the instrument. The reason I highlight the two pathways is for all of you who want to learn but can't give up your day jobs to pursue guitar full time. For you, you must study either on your own or thru a competent instructor, or preferably, both.
Ever take guitar lessons from someone who plays great but seems incapable of helping you to make real progress? Chances are, you are taking lessons from someone who learned thru Immersion and so they really don't know how they learned or even what they should teach so that their student will make progress. If so, find a competent guitar teacher and take private lessons and also do some studying on your own. A good instructor will help you greatly but there's nothing wrong with doing some study on your own. In reality, all musicians are ultimately the result of their own efforts with the guitar. So what should you study? Check out my recommended: Instruction Methods. These are what I use to teach my students. In my site I will also include guitars and other gear that will help you to succeed. Best wishes for your guitar playing! Steve.
